We did what our vet suggested and eventually he quit. It did take a while. First to clean it, you should saturate your carpet with Nature's Miracle. Then cover the area with aluminum foil (cats don't like it) and keep the area covered with foil. If necessary, place an object on the foil to keep it in place. Put slices of lemon on top of the foil (cats hate that, too) and replace lemon slices as needed. It took a while but Sunny finally quit peeing on the carpet and stuck to using the box.
